Marrero man indicted in Toddler's death

GRETNA, La. (AP) - A Jefferson Parish grand jury has indicted a 23-year-old Marrero man in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter, who authorities say suffered a bite on her back and a skull fracture before she died.

The Times-Picayune reports Cyril Jones was charged with second-degree murder and cruelty to juveniles in connection with the March 15 death of Darionne Taylor.

According to the indictment, Jones allegedly bit the child at some point during the two weeks before she died.

Jones is being held in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna in lieu of an $800,000 bond set Thursday by Judge Ray Steib.
