If you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he will tell you he just wants to be in the spotlight. At the age of 13, that's just what he's getting... and in a big way! Iberia Middle School student and St. Jude patient Markell Gregoire is in New York City right now with the best of the best in football, and they will be waiting to see if he calls their name. Markell and his mom will be mingling among the NFL hopefuls Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in the Green Room as he waits to go on stage where he will announce one of the draft picks. He says "it probably might be for the Saints," at least he hopes so!
Markell was featured in a St. Jude promotion two years ago with NFL stars, so this opportunity was a natural progression for the handsome young man who exudes charm! As the players fight to win, Markell is also fighting his own battle against osteosarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer.
He lost his left leg to the hip in March, but it hasn't taken away what he calls his "swagger." When he leaves New York City, he will return to St. Jude in Memphis and resume radiation treatments on Monday.
By the way, you can help Markell and several Acadiana children just like him by buying a St. Jude Dream Home ticket. The Early Bird deadline is a week from Friday. Click here to buy your ticket right now!
