Man wanted for attempted murder arrested

St. Mary Parish sheriff's deputies arrested a Verdunville man wanted in a double shooting in Morgan City. Alton M. Kemp Jr., 28, is accused of shooting two men on March 30 near Railroad Ave. And Eleventh St. Police say one man was shot in the lower chest and the other in the hand. Both men survived.

Deputies found the man in a bedroom at his home in Verdunville Monday afternoon at 5:49. "Two rocks of crack cocaine were located near Kemp. A juvenile was at the residence at the time of the investigation," St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Traci Landry said.

Kemp is charged with attempted second-degree murder, possession of crack cocaine, possession of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile and warrant for failure to appear.
