One man in Abbeville started a new business, not only to make a little money, but to make a difference in his community. Up until now there was no taxi service in Abbeville, but David Trahan is taking on that responsibility and much more.
"You call me, I'm there," said Trahan.
Trahan first got the idea for Safeway Taxi in August, when he offered a man he met in a bar a ride home.
"Somebody had a little too much to drink and I felt bad, I couldn't see them getting out there in the middle of the highway," explained Trahan.
From there, his idea of giving people in Abbeville a safe ride home grew. Now Trahan's company, Safeway Taxi, is the only 24-hour certified taxi service in Vermillion Parish.
"Having a reliable taxi service I think is important to a lot of people in the community," said Abbeville Mayor, Mark Piazza.
Trahan has two vehicles he uses for Safeway Taxi. He only charges $5 for a ride anywhere you want to go in Abbeville.
"I try to get there as quick and fast in possible in a safe way," said Trahan.
And he's not only a taxi service, but a community service as well. He said he'll even pick up groceries if the person can't or doesn't want to themselves. Safeway Taxi also provides roadside assistance.
"We're going to offer like mechanic work, delivery service, window tinting, a little bit of everything, to to where it's not going to be outrageous and affordable," said Trahan.
You can call him anytime day or night, seven days a week. The number is (337) 523-5058.
