Man sought in Mamou homicide last seen near Carencro

Law enforcement officials say the 29-year-old Hispanic man wanted as a suspect in a Mamou homicide was last seen in Lafayette Parish near Carencro.

On Oct. 12, police say Ezequiel Soto, 31, of Mamou, was shot once Saturday afternoon, and later died at Savoy Hospital in Mamou Sunday morning.

Police say detectives identified Javier Chavez Gonzalez, 29, as a suspect in the shooting. Evangeline Parish detectives, along with the U.S. Marshals Violent Task Force, have been actively searching for Gonzalez.

Police say Gonzalez was known to have gotten out of a vehicle along the I-49 corridor in the Carencro area, but his direction of travel is not known. Gonzalez was in the Lafayette area on Sunday as well.

He is described as a Hispanic male, 5'6" in height, approximately 150 pounds, with dark colored hair and medium complexion. Gonzalez was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, work boots and a red baseball cap. He is still considered armed and dangerous.

If anyone sees Gonzales, police advise that they should not approach him. Instead, contact your local law enforcement agency. Anybody with information on where Gonzales may be can contact the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department at 337-363-2161 or the U.S. Marshal's Violent Task Force at 337-319-4086.
