Man indicted on decades-old rape charges

A Vermilion Parish grand jury returned several true bills Wednesday, including one against a man for rapes he allegedly committed more than 40 years ago.

The grand jury found three true bills against Mark Mouton of Gueydan on four different counts of rape against two victims who were under the age of 12 at the time.

According to court records, the rapes allegedly happened from 1971 to 1974. Mouton was 18 years old at the time the crime allegedly occurred.

Earlier this year someone put a letter in Mouton's mailbox at his home in Gueydan accusing him of molesting them when they were younger. Mouton, 59, brought it to police.

During the investigation, a Vermilion Parish Sheriff detective came across two people who told the detective they both were also allegedly raped by Mouton when they were under 12 years old.

-- Mark Anthony Palombo of Erath was indicted on one count of indecent exposure with a juvenile and one count of sexual battery.

The indecent exposure allegedly took place this year with a juvenile who was seven years old.

The alleged sexual battery crime took place in from 1991 to 1992 against a person who was under the age of 15 years old.

His bond was set at $50,000.

-- A true bill was also handed down against Damien Briggs on two different counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Briggs allegedly had consensual intercourse with the victim, who was 14 years old. Briggs was 19.

His bond was set at $50,000.

-- DeShawn Dozier of Abbeville was indicted on one count of leaving the scene of an accident on Aug. 18. According to the true bill, Dozier was involved in a crash and left without giving aid to Elliot Minor, who later died.

-- Trey Micheals Duplantis of Erath was indicted on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile with a person under the age of 13 years old. His bond was set at $25,000.
