DERIDDER, La. (AP) - A DeRidder man has been sentenced to 20
years in prison in the 2008 death of a toddler.
Clarence Taylor pleaded guilty to manslaughter as part of an agreement with prosecutors.
State District Judge C. Kerry Anderson sentenced Taylor
He had initially been charged with two counts of sexual battery and second-degree murder in the death of 22-month-old Allyssa Adams. But prosecutors dropped the sexual battery charges because evidence of sexual assault "was not beyond a reasonable doubt."
Prosecutors say the toddler had been left in Taylor's care on Oct. 9, 2008 by her mother, who lived with Taylor.
