AMITE, La. (AP) - A Tangipahoa Parish jury has convicted a 33-year-old Springfield man of second-degree murder and aggravated burglary in the stabbing death of 65-year-old Rube Rogers, of Ponchatoula.
The Advocate reports Eric Maurer was accused of killing the man who raised him and then fleeing with his real father to Tennessee in August 2010.
Prosecutors say Maurer pushed Rogers down a set of stairs and later slit his throat while Rogers was on the phone to a 911 operator.
Maurer will be sentenced on May 28
A conviction for second-degree murder carries an automatic sentence of life in prison without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
