BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge man has been arrested, accused in the Monday death of an 18-month-old child.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Willie Stone, the boyfriend of the child's mother, faces a charge of first-degree murder.
Detectives booked him Wednesday after the parish coroner ruled Azaria Jackson's death was caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
According to reports, deputies responded to a call about 1:30 p.m. Monday to a report of an unresponsive child. When deputies arrived with emergency medical personnel, the child was pronounced dead.
Stone has said that when he went to wake the child to get her dressed, she was unresponsive. During questioning, detectives say Stone admitted striking the child while the mother was away at work.
