MONROE, La. (AP) - Police say a 36-year-old Monroe man faces a charge of cruelty to a juvenile after reportedly hitting a 5-year-old with a belt and an extension cord.
The News-Star reports police arrested Derrick Bernard Williams on Tuesday afternoon.
Monroe police were sent to Lexington Elementary School in reference to an injured child.
Police say the child told them that Williams - the child's stepfather - spanked him with an extension cord because the child failed to do the dishes.
The child was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.
It was unclear whether Williams has an attorney.
