Due to construction scheduled to begin as part of the UL Athletic Department's Master Plan, the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association has announced major changes for the 21st Annual Le Festival de Mardi Gras a' Lafayette. Because Reinhardt Boulevard will not be accessible due to construction, the parade route has been extended down Bertrand Drive and will now enter Cajun Field at Gate 2. To accommodate this change, the festival midway and soundstage are moving from the west parking lot to the east parking lot.
"We are excited about the changes this year because we are still able offer plenty of convenient parking while featuring a secure area for the festival rides, games and soundstage. The parade will still come right through the festival grounds so everything you need Mardi Gras will still be at Cajun Field. Plus, we were able to increase the number of RV parking spots with the new layout," said Randall Mann, Greater Southwest Treasurer and Festival co-chair. "The University has really worked with us to keep this fun, family friendly event at Cajun Field," Mann added.
