The LSU Eunice baseball team opened its four-game weekend series with visiting Kellogg Community College with a 10-0 victory on Friday night, tallying double-digit hits while their pitching staff tossed a one-hit shutout.
The Bengals (12-1) plated two runs in the third inning before scoring four runs in both the fifth and seventh innings in the win, as Kyle St. Pierre and Jordan Romero (RBI) each finished 3-for-5 with a double at the plate, with St. Pierre driving home five RBIs.
Brennan Bozeman added a hit and two RBIs, while Juan Pablo Soriano and Mason Nickens each collected a hit and RBI in pinch hit at-bats. Ray Veit and Ralphie McDonald both added hits as well.
Left-hander Chad Reeves improved to 5-0 on the season after allowing just one hit - a leadoff single in the sixth - and one walk while striking out four Kellogg (0-1) batters in six innings before Hayden Barnett tossed a perfect seventh inning to wrap the night up.
The Bengals got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Veit opened the frame with a single before later scoring on Romero's RBI groundout, while they added a second run via a Kellogg error.
In the fifth, Romero opened the inning with a leadoff double to left field and later scored when Bozeman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before St. Pierre cleared the bases with his three-run double to deep center field.
The seventh inning saw St. Pierre double to right-center field to drive home two more runs, while Soriano and Nickens each delivered their pinch-hit RBI singles later in the frame.
