BATON ROUGE - The LSU Department of Bands will hold auditions for the 2012-13 Golden Girls dance line on Saturday, March 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the new Tiger Band Hall, located on Aster Street near Highland Road.
The department will also hold auditions for the 2012-13 LSU Tiger Band Colorguard on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom of the LSU Student Union.
Both sets of auditions will be closed to the public.
The LSU Golden Girls, the premier dance line of the LSU Tiger Band, has maintained a history of excellence on the LSU campus for more than 50 years. Taking the field with the Tiger Band at LSU for the first time in 1959, the prestigious LSU Golden Girls represent the oldest and most established dance line on the LSU campus. The Golden Girls perform for all home LSU football games and selected campus events as well as away games, including bowl games, with the full Tiger Band. The Golden Girls also appear at the annual Bayou Bash football signing day event in the spring, as well as other LSU-oriented events. Previous studio dance training is highly recommended. All students chosen for the LSU Golden Girls receive a Louisiana Music Award scholarship of $1,000.
Established in 1971, the LSU Tiger Band Colorguard is comprised of approximately 24 talented young ladies who primarily twirl flags during Tiger Band pregame and halftime shows. This line is chosen by a special audition in the spring of each year. Previous twirling experience is required. The LSU Colorguard performs with the Tiger Band at all home LSU football games and away games with the full Tiger Band. Students chosen for the LSU Tiger Band Colorguard receive a music activity award of $1,000.
Membership to these groups is open to students who are on campus or incoming freshmen or transfer students that have been accepted to LSU by the audition date. Students in college, including transfer students, must have a cumulative 2.0 grade-point average in order to audition for the line and must register for the Tiger Band class, MUS 4250.
Optional workshops for both the Golden Girls and Colorguard will be offered on Saturday, March 3, and Saturday, March 31, from 1-3 p.m. each day in the new Tiger Band Hall, located on Aster Street near Highland Road. These workshops are free to attend, and no preregistration is required.
