Louisiana State Police have announced that the Black Creek Drilling well near Mowata, La., "has been capped" shortly before noon Thursday and that "residents will be allowed back to their homes."
All residents are expected to meet at the fire station for further instruction. Trooper and LSP spokesperson Stephen Hammons said that "someone from DEQ will accompany them to their houses to check air quality."
"We need them to meet at 600 Sittig Rd. in Eunice at 2:30 p.m.," said Hammons. "Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the roadways in the area will be open."
LSP made the announcement that evacuees have been awaiting since Feb. 25, when residents within a mile-and-a-half radius were given the order to evacuate.
State troopers said that evacuees must follow procedure in order to be allowed back into their homes.
