Lafayette Police Department arrested two juveniles this morning in an alleged connection to an armed robbery and a shooting in a Lafayette resident's front yard.
A third suspect is at large.
Early Tuesday at 2:30 a.m., LPD responded to reports of a shooting on Pearl St., where a 49-year-old resident reported that a truck had stopped in front of his residence and a suspect exited his vehicle, requesting the use of a cigarette lighter from the resident. According to police, the suspect then produced a handgun and demanded the victim's money.
When the resident relinquished from his wallet an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect and turned to walk back toward his home, police say the suspect shot the victim once in the shoulder and fled the area in the truck. When the suspect's truck was located a short time later on Goldman St., three suspects fled the vehicle on foot. Two of the three juvenile suspects were located and apprehended, but police are still looking for a third suspect.
In custody are two 16-year-old juveniles charged with unauthorized of a movable and armed robbery.
The resident was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. LPD asks that anyone with information about the shooting please contact Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
