Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and the weather is warming up. That means only one thing is in Acadiana's future. You may have seen them ready to wreak havoc on every car on the road. It's officially Love Bug season.
Each and every year, the entire community gets up close and personal with the love bugs, but the end result of these bugs ends up all over your front bumper.
"We've had them come in where they've pierced the clear coat. Sometimes you can sand it down with a little wet sand paper. It'll come out OK, but once it puts that pit in that clear coat, really, it's not ever going to get any better," Owner of Todd's Car Wash Todd Lemaire said.
He says to keep your vehicle from having long term damage, you need to get ahead of the bugs. A good hand wax early in the season is recommended.
"What happens is they generate an acid that will really burn through the clear coat of the car and cause you a lot of problems," Lemaire said.
Even though the bugs are harmless to you, Lemaire says regular washes along with the wax will keep your car looking good through the summer.
"Everything seems to work better when it's clean," Lemaire said
He says a good coat of wax will last about three months. Also, during the season do not let the bugs build up on your car.
