Louisiana Poet Laureate Ava Haymon visits McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Louisiana Poet Laureate Ava Haymon will read from her works Saturday at McNeese State.

Haymon's 7:30 p.m. appearance in Ralph Squires Recital Hall in the Shearman Fine Arts Center is sponsored by McNeese's Master of Fine Arts in creative writing program. It is free and open to the public.

Haymon, of Baton Rouge, is a nationally recognized poet and teacher who has worked as an Artist in the Schools and presents poetry workshops and seminars throughout the state.

Her most recent collection of poetry, "Eldest Daughter," was published by the Louisiana State University Press. She has written three previous collections, "Why the House Is Made of Gingerbread," ''Kitchen Heat" and "The Strict Economy of Fire." In addition, Haymon also edits the Barataria Poetry Series, which will premiere this spring.
