BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The U.S. Labor Department says Louisiana had the 17th highest percentage growth in construction employment in February compared with a year earlier.
The agency said Tuesday that 123,600 worked in the construction industry in Louisiana last month. That's up 1.2 percent from February 2010 and up 2.5 percent from January 2011.
Louisiana was one of 30 states to post an increase between January and February and one of 19 to add construction jobs during the past 12 months.
Officials with the Associated General Contractors of America say it is too early to tell whether the report reflects improving economic conditions or the benefit of warmer weather over most of the country last month.
