Longtime Iberia Parish Councilman 'Joe' Boudoin resigning effective Aug. 15

Iberia Parish Councilman Curtis "Joe" Boudoin will resign from the council effective Aug. 15.

According to his resignation letter, which was first obtained by KANE 1240AM's Teche Matters, Boudoin will retire to Coteau to be with his wife of 51 years and his children and grandchildren.

Boudoin was elected in 1979 and is the longest serving member of the Iberia Parish Council, he says in the letter.

He also notes that he has served with six parish presidents over the past 34 years.

"There was a day when council members could disagree without being disagreeable," Boudoin says in the letter. "They could work with the parish president to get things done for their constituents. I have sat here and watched grown men and women fight over nothing instead of working together for something. The people of Iberia Parish are tired of it."

The council will appoint someone to take over Boudoin's seat until an election can be held.
