LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) - The Livingston Parish school system is projecting an initial $2.6 million deficit in its general fund budget for the 2013-14 school year.
The Advocate reports the school board's budget and goals committee approved the system's initial 2013-14 budget Tuesday night.
The budget will go before the full board Sept. 5.
Superintendent John Watson the school system initially forecast a $4.7 million deficit when budget drafting began in the spring.
Watson says the initial budget predicts no growth in sales tax revenue, but he said school system officials expect growth of about 1.5 percent to 2 percent later in the year.
