LHS Band Will Play Huge Gig

The nationally acclaimed Lafayette High School Band will play a pretty big gig Monday morning.

The Lafayette High School Band has received top honors, traveling all over the country. Monday, they'll add to their list of accomplishments Governor Bobby Jindal's inauguration.

"We just really consider it an extreme honor that they single us out and ask us to perform for the Governor," said LHS Band Director Scotty Walker.

Lafayette High School received the invitation last Friday, but due to the Christmas holiday, the band had only three days to prepare.

"There's going to be about 30-40 minutes worth of music, and they put in some extra time to make sure it will sound really good," said Walker.

"We had an after school rehearsal so we were definitely playing and preparing those pieces," said senior band member Sarah Montgomery.

All the hard work is definitely paying off, and band members say this is an honor not only for the school, but for all of Acadiana.

"We feel very honored to leave with the name of Lafayette when we do go somewhere," said Walker.

"We get to see the Governor and play with your favorite band while you're doing it," said Montgomery.

"It is definitely an honor, I was very excited to be a part of Louisiana history and to play our instruments, and just to do what we love to do," said senior band member Karol Robinson.

This experience will be one that many of these band members will never forget.
