Les Vues Cultural Film Series

The community is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District's Vermilionville for their free monthly cultural film series, Les Vues, held the last Monday of the month (except for holidays) at 6:30 p.m. in their Performance Center.

The free film series is curated by filmmakers and enthusiasts, mostly from around the state. The films will center around the curator's interest and can range from features, documentaries, student film, shorts, animation, etc. Following the screenings will be an open discussion between the audience and the curator about the movie and how it applies on a local level.

January's screening will be held on Monday, January 27th, at 6:30 p.m. and will be curated by Paige Krause, the Acadiana Center for the Arts's Education Coordinator. Krause is a performer and choreographer and will be showing, ‘Pina', an homage to the late German performer and choreographer who was a leading influence in the development of the Tanztheater style of dance.

Admission to the film series is free, but a suggested $5 donation will go towards screening and curating costs. Refreshments will be made available for this all ages free film series. ABOUT THE MOVIE
Released in 2013, this 3D German documentary, directed by Wim Wenders, has been proclaimed as an "utterly transfixing, exhilarating spectacle of bodies in motion" and "an immersive, gorgeously shot tribute to the people who express life through movement."

Although Pina Bausch died unexpectedly just 2 days before shooting was scheduled to begin for the long-planned documentary, dancers showcased in the film convinced Wenders to continue production. In the film, which was shot in and around Wuppertal, Germany, dancers talk about Bausch and perform some of her best known pieces.

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Paige Krause received her BFA from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She has performed and presented work at the American College Dance Festival, New York Fringe Festival, Conduit Dance Space, Montreal Fringe Festival, Manship Theater, State of LA Danse, Acadiana Center for the Arts and Festival International de Louisiane.
