LEDA hosts workforce training seminar

Hundreds of Acadiana businesses are taking advantage of millions of dollars in workforce training grants and resources; and your business may also qualify. The Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) will host a seminar, Resources for Employers: Workforce Programs Overview, to provide information on workforce training programs and resources. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, June 18, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the South Louisiana Community College, 320 Devalcourt St. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.

Local training providers will offer information on available training courses. Businesses can register for classes at the seminar. Some of the programs featured will include the Small Business Employee Training Program (SBET), the Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP), On The Job (OJT) Program, and Louisiana FastStart.

Businesses with 50 or fewer employees may be able to use SBET which provides up to $3,000 per employee for annual workforce training. IWTP provides funding on a competitive basis to companies to train their employees by designing a 12-month, customized workforce training plan. Louisiana FastStart, the top workforce training program in the country, provides customized recruitment, screening and training to new and expanding, eligible companies at no cost.

Information about other no-cost workforce recruitment services, the On-the-Job-Training Program, and services for small businesses available through the Small and Emerging Business Development Program will also be presented.

There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited. The seminar is co-sponsored by the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.
