Law enforcement engaged in possible standoff in Kaplan

Kaplan Police and Louisiana State Police currently are engaged in a pursuit of an individual somewhere in the northeast section of Kaplan.

Christine Lecour of Abbeville, while driving down LA 14, reported that she and her boyfriend witnessed at least 17 police units from various jurisdictions near a street corner in a northeast Kaplan neighborhood.

The pursuit originated in a jurisdiction outside of Kaplan, but multiple units are involved, Kaplan Police said.

At the above intersection, Lecour reports that she observed guns drawn by numerous law enforcement officials and what she says is a SWAT team outside a house. Lecour said law enforcement appears to have the house surrounded.

Lecour said she is close enough to see and hear law enforcement officials knock on the door and speak to an occupant of the house.

"Stay in the house. Don't come out!" Lecour says she heard the  officers say.

"They have the road blocked off completely," Lecour added.

Details and description of the fugitive are not forthcoming at this time. KATC will report details as they emerge.
