Lake Charles school evacuated for bomb threat

Charges are pending for a 12-year-old boy after a school was evacuated for an alleged bomb police say.

According to police, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office was dispatched to F. K. White Middle School on McNeese St. in Lake Charles regarding an alleged bomb being discovered.

Police say the student brought an old-style portable radio wrapped with tape to school in his backpack. Witnesses say he showed it to them and told them it was a bomb. A student reported it to the teacher who took possession of the backpack. The school was evacuated at that time.

Louisiana State Police bomb detection team was called to the school and after examination of the object, declared it was not a bomb police say.

The student was released to his parents with charges pending.
