The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and the 1,000 inmates in its custody have outgrown the parish's 30-year-old correctional center downtown.
Now the office is preparing to open its own Public Safety Complex in Scott.
On Wednesday, the building will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a public open house on Saturday.
Capt. Kip Judice says the downtown correctional center will remain a maximum security facility.
The Public Safety Complex will house offenders who are minimum security risks and those are working jobs outside of jail.
