On Thursday, July 3, Lafayette Police were dispatched to an apartment complex near South College Road around 8 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim told police that she was followed to her apartment by her ex-boyfriend, who then forced his way into her apartment. The ex-boyfriend was allegedly armed with a knife and handgun, and began to physically abuse the victim by striking her, sexually assaulting her and refusing to let the victim leave her apartment. The last thing the victim remembers was the suspect strangling her with an electrical cord. Police report the victim says she lost consciousness. When the victim regained consciousness, the suspect had fled the apartment.
The victim was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
On Friday, July 4, the Lafayette Police Department arrested Jordan Marcel Carambat, 23 of Lafayette. Carambat is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Rape, Home Invasion and False Imprisonment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
