Lafayette Leads in the Tastiest Town Poll

Lafayette is leading the way in a national contest to be named the tastiest town of the south.

With more than 96 restaurants in the Acadiana area there is a lot of options when dining out. From Cajun, to Italian, to Mexican, and much more, Acadiana has a unique blend of flavors attracting visitors from all over the world.

"A lot of the stuff on the menu we had to ask, what is that going to be?" Jolynn Mott is from Texas and says the food here is like no other.

"Spicy, but very good. Even the coffee is very rich, but good. It was delicious."

So far that delicious food has earned Lafayette the number one spot in Southern Living's Tastiest Town of the South Poll.

"You can't pay for advertising like this. It puts Lafayette on the map, kind of separating ourselves from New Orleans which always has all the press and rightfully so for their food, but we are being identified," said Chef Patrick Mould.

Voting is as simple as logging onto Southern Living's website and clicking the Tastiest Town link and voting Lafayette number one.

Lafayette isn't the only Louisiana city fighting for the title, New Orleans is also on the list, and there are nine other out of state cities in the competition.

If lafayette wins, it could mean big bucks for the Hub City. "To be the south's tastiest town, would be something that really would drive culinary tourism to the city and more money into our economy," said Steve Santillo, Managing Partner of Jolie's Louisiana Bistro and Blue Dog Café.

Votes can be cast through January 31'st and the winner will be announced in the April edition of Southern Living.
