Lafayette Fire Chief Asking for more Funds for Department

Lafayette Fire Chief Robert Benoit is asking for $10 million to help fund the Lafayette Fire Department. According to The Advocate, Benoit is asking for $5 million in recurring expenses for salaries and another $5 million in one-time expenses for facilities and trucks. This doesn't include the push to hire 20 firefighters to have more than 300 people employed with the department. Benoit says the department's needs have been driven by Lafayette's growing population, which increases the area the fire department must cover.
