LA GOP Chair Villere expresses satisfaction with McAllister decision

The chairman of Louisiana's Republican Party is expressing satisfaction with the decision of Rep.Vance McAllister not to seek reelection for his currently held 5th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"While I would have liked to see Rep. McAllister close this chapter sooner, I was happy to hear of his decision to do what is best for his family and his constituents. Now that this situation is behind us, I am confident that voters in the 5th District will choose a strong conservative candidate in November," said LAGOP Chair Roger Villere.

Staffers with the congressman's office announced earlier Monday that he will finish his current term, but will not run for reelection at that time.

Cell phone surveillance video surfaced showing McAllister kissing one of his congressional aides, resulting in a fallout from the extra-marital controversy. Republican leaders, of late, had been calling for McAllister's resignation.
