BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - A car chase that began in Slidell, La., ended at the southern gate of the John C. Stennis Space Center north of Bay St. Louis.
St. Tammany Parish sheriff's Capt. George Bonnett tells The Sun Herald the chase began about 1:15 p.m. Thursday because of narcotics activity and carried over into Mississippi.
Bonnett said the driver, who was still unnamed because of questions regarding his identification, ran his car into a deputy when attempting to flee. The deputy was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
Bonnett says the driver is expected to be charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, aggravated flight from an officer and attempted murder of an officer. He said it's possible several other charges could be added as the investigation unfolds.
