A Kaplan man is behind bars for cyberstalking after repeatedly threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend via text message.
According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, Justin Menard, 22, 12740 La. Highway 697, Kaplan, admitted to sending numerous text messages to his ex-girlfriend saying when he got paid he would "buy a gun and take her and all her friends out."
He also reportedly drove by the victim's residence on General Mouton Avenue multiple times per day and stopped in front of her apartment building. Menard drove by the apartment twice while a Lafayette Police officer was there responding to the complaint, police said.
When questioned by police, Menard admitted to sending the threats because "he cannot stop loving her."
Menard was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail on one count of cyberstalking. No bond was set for Menard as of Friday afternoon.
