Jindal vetoes tax break for car dealer

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A lawmaker says he is surprised that Gov. Bobby Jindal vetoed a bill that would have allowed a car dealership to claim a tax break it had missed out on.
Rep. Jerome "Dee" Richard, I-Thibodaux, says his bill had no opposition when passed this year.
The bill was among several Jindal vetoed Friday.
The Houma Courier reports the bill would have allowed Dantin Chevrolet of Lafourche Parish to claim state tax credits offered to all Louisiana auto dealers over several years ending in 2007.
Richard says Dantin's credit amounted to about $35,000. He says the dealership missed out of the incentives due to the death of an accountant, which prevented it from filing the required paperwork by the deadline.
Jindal says Richard's bill would offer the dealership a "retroactive benefit."
