Jindal outlines his education agenda Tuesday

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - After months of behind-the-scenes meetings, Gov. Bobby Jindal is unveiling his education proposals for the upcoming regular session, the centerpiece of his legislative agenda this year.
Jindal has repeatedly said he wants to give more choice to children in failing schools. He is expected to recommend an expansion of a small voucher program run by the state and an increase in charter schools and online programs.
The governor also has said he wants to give school districts more flexibility in using their state education dollars.
Jindal will announce his education agenda Tuesday at a meeting of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. The legislative session begins in March.
Several proposals are expected to put Jindal at odds with teacher unions, local school boards and traditional public school leaders.
