Jindal Enacts Partial Hiring Freeze

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal has ordered another
partial hiring freeze across state government, barring most
agencies from hiring new workers without approval from his budget
Jindal issued the executive order Thursday, as the state's new
fiscal year began. It was the governor's fourth hiring freeze since
he took office in 2008, and his financial office estimates the
freezes have saved $100 million since they began.
The savings goal listed in the latest executive order is $20
The state's elected officials and the Louisiana Legislature
aren't covered by the governor's order, and Louisiana's higher
education commissioner will make decisions on filling jobs at
public colleges and hospitals.
Exempt are jobs tied to direct patient care and public safety
positions, like state troopers and prison guards.
