BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Probation and parole fees are going up in Louisiana.
Gov. Bobby Jindal signed into law Tuesday a package of fee hikes sponsored by Belle Chasse Rep. Ernest Wooton to raise costs on probationers and parolees.
The general probation and parole fees will be boosted by $10.
Meanwhile, a new $150 fee will be charged for processing parolees who want to transfer to another state and be supervised there, and a fee up to $150 will be allowed to cover costs of background investigations done before offenders are sentenced by the courts.
Also, a penalty for overdue payments of the fees will be doubled to $11.
