The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office announces that the introduction of a new communications service that employs new technology to communicate alerts and advisories directly to parish residents.
The sheriff's release explains that messages may include relevant safety and community event information and a test message will be sent at-least once per month and no more than once per week. According to the service, subscribers may choose the way in which alerts are received, whether they be delivered by email, text message, or over the web.
The new system from Nixle Community Information Service began effective Tuesday and it allows deputies to create and publish messages to be delivered to subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email.
The technology also allows notifications to be accessed online at Nixle's web site at www.nixle.com <http://www.nixle.com>.
Residents decide from which local agencies they want to receive information.
To participate, residents of Jefferson Davis Parish and those in neighboring communities mayaaa immediately begin receiving pertinent information via text message, email, and web by registering at the web address listed above and texting a zip code to the number 888777, or downloading the Nixle App in the App Store.
Deputies say that Nixle is a community information service provider built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications. It is the first authenticated and secure service that connects municipal agencies and community organizations to residents in real time, delivering information to geographically targeted consumers over their cell phones.
