Investigators searching remote area for Rendezvous arson evidence

State fire marshals are investigating a remote site in Evangeline Parish for evidence connected to the July fire that destroyed a restaurant.

Officials are searching an area off Bayou Toureau Road in the northeaster part of the parish for clues in connection with the fire at the Rendezvous Dinner Club near Ville Platte. A club employee, 22-year-old Eric Johnson, was charged with simple arson in connection with the blaze.

"We believe that items of evidentiary value were intentionally discarded in an attempt to obstruct our investigation into the arson at the Rendezvous Dinner Club," said Deputy State Fire Marshal Brant Thompson.

Thompson says more charges may be pending against Johnson and that more arrests are expected in the case.
