It's a salute that is going viral.
24-year-old U.S. Army Ranger Cpl. Josh Hargis was injured by shrapnel in Afghanistan on October 6, 2013. Hargis, from Cincinnati, was about to be presented the Purple Heart by one of his commanding officers.
No one expected what happened next.
As the reporter on Cincinnati.com reports:
"Josh had just come out of surgery. Everyone in the room, probably about 50 people, figured he was unconscious," according to his wife, Taylor Hargis.
As the Purple Heart presentation began, Hargis struggled to salute. The doctor tried to stop him, but Hargis wouldn't have it. Everyone in the room began crying.
