On August 18, 2013, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries hosted a Hunter's Education Field Day. Fifty-nine participants were certified in what was one of the largest turnouts for such a class in the parish.

The hunter education classes held in St. Mary Parish through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries continue this weekend with a 10 hour Bow Hunter Certification Class. The class will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each day on September 16, 17, and 18 at the Patterson Civic Center. The last session of the class will be held at 8:00 a.m. on September 22, 2013 at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Shooting Range. Participants must attend all days.
