Ville Platte police are investigating an attempted home invasion, turned deadly. While police haven't confirmed the identity, they say a man broke into a home late last night with a gun on MLK Drive. The intruder was killed with his own weapon. According to the family of the deceased, the man is 25-year-old Malcolm Wilson.
It was a long night for the owner of the home in the 1200 Block of MLK Drive. She says it was around one o'clock Sunday morning when a man walked in the front door, his face covered with a black ski mask. Her four children were in bed, and a male friend of hers was in the back of the house. She says that's where the trouble began. According to the homeowner, the intruder ran through the house and held a gun to her friend's head, demanding money. When he didn't comply, the unwelcomed guest tried to fire his weapon, but the gun jammed. That's when she says a struggle began, and at some point, the intruder was shot dead, in the middle of the kitchen floor. Police Chief Neal Lartigue says another person has been brought in for questioning but charges, if any, will not be filed until Monday. Investigators are continuing to look into what happened.
