A Lafayette man, Isreal Ason, was attacked in his own home on Delorde St. Friday morning. He was bound with duct tape and his mother shot in the leg.
Ason said he couldn't believe someone would try to take his mother's life over a vehicle. He and his mother woke up to three masked men carrying guns inside their home.
"I went towards the back room I tried to see what was going on, by the time I got to the back room, the guy pulled a 45 on my face and told me to go to the back room," he explained. "He hit me behind the head and told me to give up the keys or he was going to kill my mother."
Ason handed over the keys to his 2001 Dodge Caravan, then one of the home invaders shot Ason's mother in the leg.
"She ran out the house to the neighbors house over there," Ason said.
Neighbor, Mabry Arcenaux, said "she was coming outside and she was full of blood."
The three robbers sped off in the stolen vehicle. The violent home invasion has some of the neighbors on edge. Another neighbor, Mary St. Julien, said "I know we had trouble on this street before and I'm scared now."
Lafayette Police still have no one in custody. Meanwhile, the wounded victim is now out of the hospital and recovering. The family is making plans to move.
