Harley "Chic" Morgan, a celebrated local golfer from Crowley who made the Guiness Book of World Records in 1956, died recently at the age of 87.
Morgan was married to Theresa Broussard Morgan and had two children, Micheal Morgan and Patrick Morgan. His family also included 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Presidio from 1944 - 1945 as a landing craft driver.
He was best known as Chic, especially to his golfing buddies, and for his association with the Nike Golf Tour.
Morgan was also known for his entry into the Guinness Book of World Records in 1956 for scoring a 133-yard hole-in-one that never touched either the fairway or the green at the Acadia Country Club, now the Bayou Country Club in Crowley.
He was a member of the Bayou Bend Country Club, winning several city championships, and an active member of the local VFW and the American Legion in Crowley.
Morgan worked for 30 years as a plant manager for Conoco.
Morgan's family is seeking donations for his burial costs. Donations can be made at Evangeline Bank and Trust in Crowley under the Harley Morgan Benefit fund.
