Hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money is on the line for Lafayette Parish Schools Tuesday. It's money that was blocked last month by state Rep. Rickey Hardy, D-Lafayette, who says he did not vote for the funding because no one from the school board called him to request it.
"We want to be there to make sure that if there are any questions, we'll be there to answer them," said Billy Guidry, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer for Lafayette Schools.
Guidry will be one of a handful of school officials present in the joint House-Senate Education Committee meeting in Baton Rouge Tuesday. Nearly $750,000 is on the line for Lafayette schools in that meeting. The money is from the Louisiana Educational Excellence Fund, and would go toward tutoring students with low test scores.
When reached for comment Monday, Hardy said he would not rule anything out Tuesday. Although he is re-introducing the school board's request to the committee, he would not comment on whether or not he would vote for it.
