No doubt about it some will have their reservations about eating seafood from the Gulf in the wake of the crude disaster, but there are efforts underway at the state and federal levels to ensure oil does not make it to the marketplace.
Waters open to commercial fishing are being tested for contamination by a number of agencies including the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the FDA.
"Everything is clean so far," said Mark Shirley with the LSU AgCenter. "To date they have not found any problem areas, especially in Vermilion Bay, people can feel safe about the shrimp that these people are catching."
