Gueydan police officer booked on narcotics charges

An off-duty, part-time Gueydan Police Officer was arrested on charges relating to possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and other narcotics.

Thursday morning, shortly after 11:40 a.m., troopers say they stopped a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by 26-year-old Kenneth Martin of Abbeville for a traffic violation on 3rd Street west of LA Highway 35 in Kaplan. During the stop, troopers say they observed marijuana inside of the vehicle. Martin was placed under arrest and a search of his vehicle was conducted. Troopers say they recovered about one half ounce of marijuana, 19 hydrocodone pills, a semi-automatic handgun and an opened bottle of liquor.

Martin was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail for a vehicle equipment violation, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute a schedule III narcotic, open alcoholic container, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and obstruction of justice.
