A West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury has indicted Brusly Police Chief Jamie Whaley on charges of theft and malfeasance in office.
The Advocate reports the 36-year-old surrendered to authorities Jan. 23 after he was accused of using a town-issued credit card to purchase $1,120 in gasoline for his personal truck and boat.
According to a warrant for his arrest, Whaley initially denied using the card when investigators confronted him on Jan. 16. However, he admitted he had illegally used the credit card after he was shown a spreadsheet, receipts and video evidence. Whaley has since repaid the town for the alleged transactions.
Whaley is serving his third term as elected police chief.
