With New Year's celebrations happening all over Acadiana this weekend, police and an Acadiana business are reminding party-goers to always have a safe way home.
Usually the sound of your vehicle being towed isn't what you want to hear after a night out. But Guy's Towing Service is just giving drivers a lift home.
"If you had a little bit too much to drink you can call us, we'll come pick up your car, bring you and your car back to your house free of charge within city limits," said Jason Babin, of Guy's Towing Service.
And with Lafayette Police out in full force this New Year's Eve, Corporal Paul Mouton said services like "tipsy taxi" and "tipsy tow" are smart alternatives.
"Here in the City of Lafayette we're expecting to exceed the amount of people that we put in jail last year by more than several hundred this year. So we're out there, we're looking for impaired drivers, and when we find impaired drivers we put them in jail," said Mouton.
So with your car and you safely dropped off at home, the free towing service could also be a life saver.
"It's much better to go tow your car from the bar to your house rather than see you at an accident scene where people might have got hurt or cause damage to others. It's a much better situation for everybody involved," said Babin.
Guy's Towing offers its free service in several cities, including Lafayette and Broussard. They will pick you up and bring you home for free through January 15, 2011. If it's outside city limits, Guy's charges $2.50 per mile. The number to call for the tipsy tow service is 1-800-237-GUYS (4897).
