A Franklin man is behind bars for allegedly setting a dog on fire.
Alton Fine, 23, is charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal and simple arson.
According to officials, the dog, a four-year-old Shih Tzu mix named "Peddy," suffered burns over more than 50 percent of its body during Tuesday's incident. Fine allegedly poured charcoal lighter fluid on the chained up dog and set it on fire. A driver saw the suspect set Peddy on fire and stopped to assist another person in putting out the fire, according to authorities.
Adrienne's Animal Hospital in Franklin is providing treatment to the dog. According to Dr. Adrienne Aycock, Peddy is not owned by the suspect. The dog is back home with his owners and is expected to survive his injuries.
Fine remains behind bars without bond.
