On September 24, 2013, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day 2013.
The theme for this year's National Voter registration Day - Millions of people will vote this year. Will you? - is representative of the importance of off-year elections. Of significance are the 1,500 state-wide and local political races and ballot initiatives that will be decided this Election Day, November 5, 2013.
Started in 2012 for the presidential election, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right - the right to vote. More than 300,000 Americans were registered to vote in the inaugural National Voter Registration Day 2012.
The goal for the 2013 National Voter Registration Day is to create awareness of off-year elections by encouraging Americans to register to vote and come out to the polls this fall.
Hundreds of national, state and local organizations will be the driving force behind National Voter Registration Day. Partner organizations will coordinate thousands of NVRD events nationwide and will drive attention to local elections and ballot initiatives, voter registration, and making civic engagement part of everyday conversation.
Teche Action Clinic is proud to be a National Voter Registration Day partner. On September 24, 2013 Teche Action Clinic will engage the community and register voters at the following event:
